The Suffolk Real Estate Market and AreaCurrently there are 1065 homes for sale in Suffolk ranging from $60k to $1.2 million and the median home value is $250,200 as of 2007. Suffolk is a little different from the other 6 cities of Hampton Roads. There are very few condos and townhomes and mostly detached single family homes. A small portion of the city is considered urban while a large portion is rural with many of the properties having bigger lots than Suffolk's sister cities. Here you will find many opportunities for buyers who are looking for acreage, whether it's for privacy or horses. I've sold plenty of homes in Suffolk where you couldn't exactly talk with your next door neighbors from your porch. Even though I'm from Virginia Beach, there is a special place in my heart for the country. If you don't mind a little drive, Suffolk can offer you plenty of options for space and sellers are motivated. Typical property types include detached single family homes, farms, luxury homes, waterfront properties, and big lots. Because Suffolk is so large with lots of available land, there is a good mix of newer and older neighborhoods. Popular neighborhoods include Bennetts Harbor, Burbage Grant, Cedar Point, Driver, Holy Neck, Olde Mill Creek, and The Riverfront. The AreaSuffolk is the largest city, in terms of land mass, in Hampton Roads as well as the state of Virginia and ,as of 2007, the city's population was upwards of 81,000. Suffolk is located in Southern Virginia bordered by the Great Dismal Swamp, Chesapeake, and North Carolina. Along with many lakes and tributaries, the Nansemond River runs through the city which leads to the great James River and the bay. Suffolk also facilitates the Monitor Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel which connects the Southside to the Penninsula. Major employers include Lockheed Martin, QVC, Walmart, Lipton Tea, and Planter's Peanuts. Suffolk really isn't considered the "big city" however, there are many things to do if you like outdoor activities. There are quite a few golf courses and parks to visit. As a matter of fact, the 9th hole at Sleepy Hole Golf Course was one of the hardest in Hampton Roads(for me at least). Notable schools in the area include King's Fork High School, Nansemone River High School, and Lakeland High School.
