Northeast North Carolina Real Estate - Homes for Sale
Located over the state line from Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Suffolk is a huge area that offers many opportunities for those seeking homes for sale. If you are considering purchasing real estate in northeast North Carolina you may want to consider the towns and counties of Moyock, Elizabeth City, Knotts Island, Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Gates, South Mills, and Perquimans. Over the years, many home buyers who work in Hampton Roads have chosen to actually purchase their home in North Carolina. The reason? Well, there are many that have attracted people to this area. Here are few that come to mind:
Real estate taxes are .32 per hundred (approx. 70% lower than Hampton Roads)
Federal employess or Federal retirees do not pay State Income Tax
Easy commute to many cities of Hampton Roads
Additional waterfront properties to choose from
More properties with bigger lots
Home prices are typically lower than in Hampton Roads
Great for those who love rural living but close to the cityThe demand for home ownership in northeast North Carolina has continued to grow through the years which has spawned the birth of many new neighborhoods in all price ranges. Most of the property types you'll find here are detached single family homes and many have larger lots compared to the cities of Hampton Roads, typically at least .5 acre. Transportation is a key factor with commuters, of course. There are two major highways that run from Hampton Roads to the most populated areas of the region: Route 17 and Route 168. Route 17 was transformed a couple of years into a major highway giving commuters a safe and fast way to get to work. Mainly due to the amount of vacationers making their way to the Outer Banks, Route 168 was built as a much better atlernative to Battlefield Blvd. This road has a toll of $2 but you can purchase a Smart Pass which will knock the toll down to .50 and no waiting. Although I am a Virginia Beach native, our family moved to Currituck about 6 years ago and I sell real estate in Hampton Roads everyday. I live about 12 minutes over the line past Moyock and to help you better understand travel times, here are a few examples of what I do:

- 35 minutes to Greenbrier
- 40 minutes to Portsmouth
