Larchmont
Along side Hampton Blvd. and just several blocks from Old Dominion University you'll find the beautiful neighborhood of Larchmont. Originally established in the early 1900's, Larchmont has stood the test of time and has grown to be a staple of Norfolk, Va. Many residents describe their area as family oriented and pleasant with lots of character. As with many areas in Hampton Roads, there are many homes with water views. Larchmont is located on somewhat of a peninsula with the Elizabeth River on the west and the Lafayette River on the east, which gives boaters many opportunities to own a home on or near the water. Today, there are nearly 6,000 residents who enjoy the picturesque streets of Larchmont that are often lined with 150 year old magnolia trees, oaks, and crepe myrtles. In addition, joggers may enjoy the views from the rivers and many inlets that surround the area.
Regarding real estate in Larchmont, many of it's 2300 homes were built in the early to mid 1900's but today you will also find new detached homes and a large townhome area. Currently there are 57 homes on the market ranging from $240,000 (cape cod, 1295 square feet, built in 1921) to $1,269,000 (traditional, 5,000 square feet, built in 2008). The new townhomes range in price from $350,000 to $600,000. The older established homes come complete with the beauty and architecture that come with that era and offer characteristics that just can't be seen in newer homes. Property types include small craftsmen-style bungalows, townhomes, modest single-family detached homes, and grand Victorian estates.
Residents of Larchmont enjoy many things to do and places to go with downtown Norfolk just 5 miles away. Notable places of interest in close proximity are The Ted Constant Convocation Center, Harrison Opera House, Nauticus, and Macarthur Mall. Just a couple of miles down Hampton Blvd. is the Colley Ave. business district which is an interesting area containing art galleries, Starbuck's, unique small businesses, and the Naro movie theater. Even closer, just outside the neighborhood's boundary is Larchmont Public Library, the Larchmont Shops, and Bazemore's Grocery.
Schools for the neighborhood include Larchmont Elementary, Blair Middle School, and Maury High School.
