Kempsville
Originally known as Kemp's Landing during the American Revolutionary War, the town of Kempsville was established in 1781 and was located in, what was then, Princess Anne County. Princess Anne County eventually merged with the city of Virginia Beach in 1963 and Kempsville exploded in growth to create one fo the most sprawling suburban areas in the city. Because most of the population explosion occurred in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, half of the homes for sale in Kempsville are small ranches around 1500 square feet. The rest of the homes on the market are usually "newer" condos or townhomes. Because of shopping, a public golf course, and close proximity to Norfolk and the beach, Kempsville remains a desirable and popular place to live. Notable landmarks for the area are Fairfield Shopping Center, Providence Square Shopping Center, Rock Church, and Yukon Steakhouse.
Today there are around 60 homes for sale in Kempsville, ranging in price from $134k to $599k. Most of these homes, however, are under $250k and nearly half of them are under $200k.
Schools for the neighborhood are Kempsville Middle School and Kempsville High School. There are 7 elementary schools for the district: Arrowhead, Fairfield, Kempsville, Kempsville Meadows, Point of View, Providence, and Woodstock.
