Home Maintenance for the Fall

 

• Check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
• Close vents to conserve heat
• Make sure your air ducts are clean. Have them cleaned by a professional if necessary
• Clean dryer hoses and the exterior dryer vent
• Schedule an inspection and cleaning of your heating system
• Have your chimney professionally cleaned
• Clean or replace air filters every month
• Clean out gutters and downspouts
• Remove warm weather screens from windows and doors and replace the storm windows
• Check caulking around windows and doors. Repair as necessary
• Check for damaged weather-stripping around doors
• Drain hot water heater and remove any sediment
• Drain and store garden hoses
• Cover spigots with foam covers
